The world of electronic music is so heavily dominated by men, I really think it's rare to find a woman who is actually behind the music production and the more there are, the better! It's really disappointing that there aren't more and I really look up to them as a fellow female, electronic musician.
The story of Emika is exactly what I was hoping to find in the world of dubstep. Read it on Last FM. Emika is a sound designer for Native Instruments and produces her own tracks that feature a hands-on approach to electronic music, using field recordings and her own processes. "Drop The Other (Scuba's Vulpine Remix)" is truly haunting. If you liked my post on Burnkane and thought "this would be better if it were more ambient", then this is for you. Dark, ambient, and well done and incredible revision from the infamous Scuba.
