Bloodcat / Virgin Fang
Virgin Fang, what looks to be an electro duo based out of the Netherlands, is cooking up something really strange, not to mention awesome. It sounds to me a bit like an acid take on a dub/dancehall blend. They really screw with the typical dancehall cues and characteristic drum sounds. Gotta check this out!
They just changed their website which had a free download, so now I recommend heading over to flexx to here at least a sample!

Is This On Me? / Elite Gymnastics
I love how this track has been constructed by Elite Gymnastics, an electro duo from Minneapolis. The sounds they have coming in and out are used well, especially the pitch-shifted vocals. Although I'm not really into their own, non-pitch-shifted vocals, I can let it slide for how cool this song is.

Werewolf (Omega Remix) / Cocorosie
Check out this sick remix of "Werewolf" by French electronic folk artist Cocorosie. Omega, hailing from Denver, CO, is putting out the kind of artful dubstep I've been looking for, so they're definitely one to keep an eye on.

Perfect Stranger (Feat. Katy B) (Benga Remix) / Magnetic Man
I am a fan of UK singer Katy B's voice and am really excited that she is working with electro/dubstep collaboration, Magnetic Man, who will be dropping an album of the same name next month. Listening to their other stuff, I was pretty surprised by how awesome this remix by their own, Benga, turned out. Check it out below!

Watuppp Ft. Young Buck (B.Rich Remix) / Kissed With A Noise
In a recent quest for more rap-infused dubstep, I found out about this awesome track featuring Young Buck by Kissed With A Noise (apparently an electro artist from Canada). Remix by PA house producer, B. Rich.

Nitetime Rainbows / A Sunny Day in Glasgow
Just heard this refreshing track by Philadelphia's A Sunny Day in Glasgow, a collaborative band that has survived many transformations and you can hear it in their music. "Nitetime Rainbow" uniquely layers contrasting textures that are simultaneously bizarre and relaxing. I love 80s dreampop and while A Sunny Day in Glasgow definitely draw their influences from artists like My Bloody Valentine, I don't think they sound like them at all, at least based on this one track. But they are uniquely different.

This is a tune I've been diggin since June but haven't decided to post about until now because there have been so many great new songs I've come upon. Diplo is always a hit or miss with me but more and more he's been putting out hits and this remix of "My Secret Lover" by Danish band, Private, is definitely my current favorite.

Love Is Gonna Save Us (Stephan Jacobs Remix) / Benny Benassi
Upcoming West Coast artist Stephan Jacobs is one to watch out for. I've taken a listen to some of his most recent work and his remixes are amazing. Check out his most recent mind blowing manipulation of "Love Is Gonna Save Us" by superstar DJ, Benny Benassi. Stephan has been generous enough to put his latest work on soundcloud, up for free download below.

Lobegrinder / Boreta
Boreta, along with fellow glitch all-stars edIT and Ooah, are the core members of the infamous LA Glitch Mob, who in the past four years have come to dominate the US underground glitch scene. I continue to become a bigger fan of theirs the more I hear and Boreta in particular, is definitely something I want to hear more of. I wish for a little more creativity in the bass lines but the beats are always nasty.

Scars / Basement Jaxx
Now, I know it's been awhile since Scars, the 5th studio album by Basement Jaxx, came out, but it's been piled onto my listening list along with of other albums by some favorite electronic artists for a reason. I listened to "Raindrops" and heard clips from the other songs like "Saga" and didn't think it was anything too different. Lesson learned: as always, don't go by iTunes clips.
But at least I've finally listened to "Scars", the track of the same name as the album featuring Kelis, Meleka, and Chipmunk. For me, it is a perfect track, absolutely flawless. One that I've been looking for for a long time. It's the kind of thing that I always hoped Basement Jaxx would produce and I knew they could from tracks like "Don't Give Up". The chorus sample is out of this world. It will make you feel like you're flying over a rolling extraterrestrial landscape. Long live Basement Jaxx.
For this one, I suggest listening without the animation..

Why 1998 Was My Favorite Year In Music
I love electro and that's primarily what I blog about, but my first true love is Trip-Hop. I recently noticed how many of my favorite albums actually came out in 1998. That year was my personal favorite year for trip-hop (in terms of album releases), with the previous year coming very close (with big favorites like Portishead's ST and Björk's Telegram and Vespertine). By 1998 Trip-Hop had a solid foundation and these artists were able to take it in their own, new direction; even artists who weren't considered trip-hop artists were influenced by it's enticing beats and melancholy nature (Tori Amos, The Cardigans). I also like the general style of production at that time. Here are a list of my favorite albums released in '98:
1) Portishead (Live NYC) - Portishead
2) Baxter (ST) - Baxter
3) Blue Wonder Power Milk - Hooverphonic
4) People Are Strange - Stina Nordenstam
5) Empathy - Mandalay
6) From the Choirgirl Hotel - Tori Amos
7) Breath From Another - Esthero
8) Gran Turismo -The Cardigans
9) Formica Blues - Mono
10) Parts of the Process - Morcheeba
11) Mezzanine - Massive Attack

Work This City (Shuttle Remix) / Body Language
New on the block, Body Language is branching the soul of downtempo/indie pop (think fellow tourmates Zero 7 and Sia) with dance/electro, creating a wave of interest that started in Brooklyn and is spreading rapidly. They remix and are remixed, and their sets include DJing with current favorites and their own new material. If you haven't yet, check out the remix of Work This City by notorious Boston DJ, Shuttle.
The Tuss
According to their record label (Rephlex), The Tuss are British musicians Brian Tregaskin and Karen Tregaskin. Their aggressive approach to acid techno is alarming and will immediately grab and sustain your attention. Dark breakbeats welded with juxtaposing timbres make the tracks sound all to similar to electronic legend Richard D. James (Aphex Twin). In my opinion, there are a number of factors why the hype about who The Tuss really is should be ignored. The most important of which (agreeing with Rephlex) is that the music itself is what matters most. So simply enjoy it!

All Hearts Tour / Robyn and Kelis
I apologize for the late post since I've been busy releasing my new track! Anyway, two weeks ago I was fortunate enough to get to see one of few concerts (7 total) scheduled for the All Hearts Tour, a promotional tour for the newest albums of Swedish pop singer, Robyn and US singer Kelis, who's rep has now truly spanned the genres! Robyn's album Body Talk Pt. 1 and Kelis's Flesh Tone were both highly anticipated late Spring releases. They are both fantastic albums; Robyn's taking it to a whole new level with songs like "Dancing On My Own" and "Don't Fucking Tell Me What To Do", that are packed with fight. Flesh Tones was really surprising. Kelis is making a turn for the better, I think, by branching out as an electronica singer.
I saw it all at the House of Blues in Boston, MA. Started out with the upbeat electro/rap trio Far East Movement followed by an amazing performance by sampler star Dan Black. I've never seen anyone work a lone sampler quite so emotionally before. This was followed (after a full hour) by Kelis who started off with songs from Flesh Tone. Then she performed something quite bizarre: a medley of mostly her own, older hits including the infamous "Milkshake" and older R&B songs followed by more from Flesh Tone.
Last but not least was Robyn whose performance (along with her live band of two drummers and two guys on synth cages) was by far the best electronic performance I've ever seen. And I believe the reason why it was so good is because it was completely live, something that is rare to come by in electronic performances. There weren't many pre-recorded samples be used except for her song "Don't Fucking Tell Me What To Do". I thought that was strange. She didn't start singing till the famous lyrics started. Before that, it was pre-recorded and in the mean time, Robyn ate a banana on stage. It was a deserved break, however, because overall her performance was so energetic and awesome, that it wound up being the best electronic music experience for me so far!

Camp Bisco 9
I've just returned from my first experience of attending the annual Camp Bisco music festival in upstate NY! Camp Bisco was created by the energetic, electro-rock band the Disco Biscuits to bring together some of the most exciting music acts around, especially live electronic performers! I managed to see every act on my must-see list and there were many other performers as well, the gist of which created a dub to world to hard electronic vibe for the weekend. Here are the bands I got to see perform with a brief impression they made on me:
The Disco Biscuits - So much consistent energy and epic performances. If a "galactic stadium rock band" was a real way to describe a band, I would say that's what they are.
Pretty Lights - Great sound choices. Pretty Lights has a way with putting a song together. Live electronic mixing is a strange and complicated art especially when you are a lone DJ, and I understand having things backed up to be safe, but I think he over did it and it made his performance lacking as a live experience..
LCD Soundsystem - Fun and full set with live instruments. Great upbeat energy that got EVERYONE going on the first night.
Caribou - One of my favorites of the festival that got me and everyone in the dance tent excited. These guys have a unique approach to music that really works for them; they are intricate and create great live electronic music with live instruments and performers. Awesome.
Album Leaf - The most laid back band I saw there. And for some ridiculous reason they followed Wu Masacre. ? Pre-recorded beats with live drums, synths and strings. They were making gorgeous music on stage and it got into everyone there for them.
Thievery Corporation - Amazing live performance! I've been a pretty dedicated fan since I was 14 and they played many of my favorite songs and I still love them all. They are a DJ duo but only half (Eric Hilton) were up mixing along with their live musicians (horns, bass, guitar/sitar, percussion) and a different singer for almost every song! Seeing a favorite band give an awesome performance is always a gratifying experience.
Major Lazer - Major Lazer (Diplo mixing and Switch as MC) was a popular set. I think Diplo was great live and I'm glad I got to see him perform. The music was great, but I'm not a fan of Switch. And he definitely made it impossible for anyone to forget their name since he just yelled "MAJOR LAZER" every chance he got. Kind of a put off performance wise. Still like their recorded tracks though.
Bassnectar - Absolute favorite of the festival!! He had a perfect night slot and the turn out was HUGE. Everyone was dancing their hardest to the some of the absolute dirtiest dub tracks I've ever heard. Bassnectar is tearing his own path through the realm of dubstep and it is so raw and awesome, you can't help but be amazed. His energy was great and he was so into the crowd. He was a solo set, but he had a powerful impact.
Telepath - A chill switch from Bassnectar the night before, Telepath is electronic meets world influenced act that got the hulahoops going and the smoke rising in the hot sun. Live instruments with sampling.
Break Science w/ Talib Kweli & David Murphy - I saw Break Science over a year ago at my college and they were this great hip-hop and DnB duo which consisted of a DJ and a spectacular live drummer. At Bisco, they were joined by Talib Kweli. I perform and I know that the sound techs screw up and equipment will fail, but there was no excuse for this guy. It started with him asking to crank the vocals to the point where they were literally feeding back to stopping the middle of a song so he could do some mediocre a cappella spiel. It was sadly my least favorite performance.
Felix Cartel - Solo DJ performance that kept everyone moving. Constant build ups and bass drops that were pretty clever in composition and made each one interesting. Music you can dance to plus intriguing listening is a prefect combo.
Kill The Noise - Another solo DJ performance. Urban electro of the Boyz Noise variety that was unfortunately mostly cancelled because the dance tent was on top of a hill during an intense lightening storm. What I did see, I really liked.
Girl Talk - I'm not that big of a fan but I'll admit he was fun to see live. Lots of energy from the solo DJ.
Rusko - made the dance tent go CRAZY. Upbeat dubstep, solo performance that was awesome! Lots of cool and fun ideas coming from Rusko and great remixes as well.
Aeroplane - I love Aeroplane and the solo DJ is making some of my favorite remixes out there. But he seemed kinda nervous after following Rusko (bad placement). His stuff is a lot more laid back and classic electro-remixes where Rusko was more intense. Aeroplane, however seems to pay more attention to detail and making everything sound perfect, which I understand completely. Lots of fun. His music is pretty sexy. Oh, and BARBARA STREISAND!!

Dry Land / Bloodgroup
Dry Land, the newest album put out in 2009 by Icelandic band, Bloodgroup, is going to get you moving. The album breaks barriers with its choice of instruments and breaks for each song and it will definitely make you pay attention to what they're doing. And it rocks. Bloodgroup is right up there with fellow Icelanders FM Belfast, another group known for its accessible approach to making music. Both the groups prove that Iceland lives up to its unique rep in all aspects, especially live electronic performances by its amazing musical inhabitants. Something is definitely brewing over there and it reaches out in a way that is unparalleled by any other electronic music scene I've experienced..
Check out this live video Bloodgroup performing "Pro Choice" shot during Iceland's famous music festival Iceland Airwaves!

Starry Eyed (Jakwob Remix) / Ellie Goulding
Ellie Goulding has got it all in my book. She's got a sweet, strong voice, a talent for song-writing, a personality that holds its own in the electronic community, and she is really cute! I haven't been this interested in Brit-pop since the early 2000's and she has all the magic of old favorites like Frou Frou (Imogen Heap). And she isn't just going for a Florence + The Machine approach either. Her stuff is unique because she is putting her own flair on a really hot genre. Although the British singer has not yet hit big press in the US, you will know her especially if you saw Kick Ass or if you like Passion Pit who she toured with.
Check out this remix of her hit "Starry Eyed" by fellow Brit artist Jakwob. I heard this before the original and was surprised when I heard how electronic the original actually is, glitchy vocals and all.

People Are Strange (UNKLE Remix) - Stina Nordenstam
Today I found out about this rare little remix from the 1998 album People Are Strange by the incredible Swedish artist Stina Nordenstam. The legendary DJs that have formed UNKLE did well, making sure not to lose the melancholy articulations of "People Are Strange", and in fact did even better in bringing them out.

Sex Dreams and Denim Jeans / Uffie
Sex Dreams and Denim Jeans is the newly released full-length album by French rap goddess Uffie. She is a forerunner on the French electro scene, especially since gaining fame for her single "Pop the Glock" since 2006, and is one of Ed Banger's bright stars. She is the ass-kicker Ke$ha only dreams of being. I predict "Our Song" being a great summer anthem. Also worth mentioning is a brilliant remix of "ADD SUV (Feat. Pharrell Williams)" by UK DJ Hudson Mohawke.
Pass Out (Remix) / Tinie Tempah ft. L Raze
Remix of the hit single by Tinie Tempah featuring fellow British rapper L. Raze. There are a ton of remixes and covers out there because everyone realizes that Tempah's flo is pretty weak.. L. Raze really owns it for me in this one.
L. Raze has a link to download his version of "Pass Out" but I think it needs to be updated. Follow this link to his upload on youtube, maybe he's updated it: Pass Out (Remix)

Body Talk, Pt. 1 / Robyn
Swedish pop legend Robyn dropped her latest album yesterday! The first of a three-part album series, Body Talk, Pt. 1 is fresh cut after fresh cut, a strategy Robyn has kept since her success in the early 90s. As always, she has incorporated the hottest electro-pop sounds out there (including dub/dancehall) while always staying true to her unique style. She is a bad ass, and if you are skeptical, just check out her newest video for "Dancing On My Own" off Body Talk here.

Le Corps Mince de Françoise
As you can tell from their fantastic picture, Le Corps Mince de Françoise (LCMDF) is a totally over-stylized sister duo from Helsinki. (Used to be the trio above, now it's just sisters Emma and Mia.) Despite any major release, LCMDF are picking up a lot of attention from the quirky electro tunes (featuring great vocal parts) they have put out so far. Luckily, their stuff is distinct and I'll be hoping it stays that way as I and their other fans await the aforementioned major release they are working on now.
"Something Golden" is great. The video is ..ok. I recommend listening to it without getting too distracted by the video.

Ultre is the stage name for English electronic musician and live visual artist, Finn McNicholas. He is putting out some of the most brilliant electronic music on the scene that I've ever heard recently. Guitar and string sounds entwine with beautiful, assertive beats in the album The Nest and The Skull, truly an audible handicraft of great artistry, each sound and click an individual thought and decoration. D.A.N.C.E. (Jackson Remix Do The J.A.H.C.B.) / Justice
There is a lot of glitch out there, but few artists are quite as meticulous with their meshing and mashing of sounds at thumping dance tempos as Jackson and His Computer Band. The J.A.H.C.B. mix of "D.A.N.C.E", by fellow French artist Justice, takes the bare bones of the original and morphs it into a completely new, complex of masterfully engineered sounds. Dreamland / Cordafonia
The rich orchestral textures in Dreamland from the self-titled album by Cordafonia is truly invigorating to listen to. Trying to find out who Cordafonia is was a fun challenge. The orchestral intricacy of Dreamland made sense when I found out that the name behind it was Adrain Sutton, a British composer who does most of his work writing orchestral scores for films. On some sites, Cordafonia is his stage name and on others he has no stage name at all. Sutton has taken his experience in composing to the electronic realm and has made great use of it, creating fantastic landscapes of sound.
Enjoy listening to Dreamland.
