Silver Surfer, Ghost Rider Go!!! (Andrew Weatherall Prinz Mix) / Trentemøller

This is without a doubt my favorite song that I found out about in 2011.  It wasn't until close to the end of the year that I began listening to nu disco and fell head over heals.  The original has elements dark wave, surf rock and some dnb.  But what Andrew Weatherall has done brings it to a completely different level.  It's slowed (wonderful good idea), it's a bit minimal, and it shimmers in a way that I cannot describe.  The sounds of the instruments are beautifully designed, a gritty guitar sounding synth and perhaps synth sounding guitar, over a sharp beat, remixed with mastery.  Just unbelievable.

Anders Trentemøller is a Danish electronic musician from Copenhagen.

This remix can be found on Trentemøller's album Reworked/Remixes, a 2 disc comp. featuring Trentemøller's remixes as well as other artists who have remixed his songs, and reworkings.  Just picked it up in Germany not too long ago.  Most of my favorites from this compliation are songs I had already known about, but if you are interested in Trentemøller's works of great indie electronica, it is worth checking out.  I will surely be posting more songs featured from this album.

Andrew Weatherall is a key figure in UK dance culture and has been since the 80s when ecstasy started taking over the dance floor.

The version uploaded by Trentemøller below is not full, but provides a taste of this fantastic remix.

Virus (Them Jeans Remix) / Bjork

This is quite a surprising remix.  The beat is totally addictive and when it comes in it will instantly grab you while you're being hypnotized by the beautiful bell sample from the original song.  Then all of a sudden, half way through the track, everything starts to get pretty nuts, with some awesome fx work for a bit, then satisfies your craving for bass by dropping you back into the original groove.  Very, very well done.  And Them Jeans has made it free to download in the player attached!

Björk is a world famous artist known for her remarkably unique voice and unclassifiable yet classic chart topping hits and countless other works, collaborations, albums, movies, and more.

Jason Stewart, better known to the world as Them Jeans, has been the driving force behind world famous club night Dim Mak Tuesdays at Cinespace for over five years as both a DJ and promoter.  His music shares a genuine belief in crafting one-of-a-kind listening experiences that look toward challenging people’s perception of mainstream music and blurring the line between dance music and every other genre imaginable.

Stay (Feat. Mimi Bain & Floetic) / DYR

Bad Planet is back after a term long hiatus!  I apologize for the abnormally long break, but it was necessary for my life in music for awhile.  It's good to be back and I look forward to sharing more tunes with you all! Thank you for continuing to follow Bad Planet.

To start back up I decided to share what I have been doing during that time.  "Stay" is an original song that I wrote this year for my song production class at Bennington featuring vocals by Mimi Bain and Floetic (Alex Mendez).  It also features some great album artwork by my good friend Stroudle.  It is available for download for free here (this is the best version). Give it a listen and enjoy!

Bamboo / Jon Giovanni

"Bamboo" is a wild electronic romp released on Grizzly this past June.  Not much is known about the song's mysterious creator, Jon Giovanni, but if you're also a fan of Basement Jaxx, you'll soon be adding him to your list of artists to keep an eye on!

Check out Grizzly here!

Here is a great minimal track, especially if you ever find yourself having a summer night minimal listening session, highly reccomended!  If not, here is a good start to your new collection, but give it a listen here, first.  "Evil Dub" is off Trentemøller's incredible must-have '06 debut album, The Last Resort.

SBTRKT Mix

Today I noticed iTunes is promoting something called "DJ Playlists".  Because of it's less than exciting theme, it probably would never have caught my attention if I hadn't seen the names of Diplo, David Guetta, Skrillex, and other popular, but more or less random DJs, one of them being a recent favorite, SBTRKT.  So I took a listen to the clips of SBTRKT's 10 song selection and fell in love immediately.  I haven't checked the others out and don't really plan to, but feel free.

SBTRKT: DJ Playlist - August 2011

The mix includes:

"The Lick" - Dark Sky
"All Your Love" - Hudson Mohawke
"Crystalfilm" - Little Dragon
"Mozaik" - Zomby
"U Don't Survive" - Machinedrum
"Isolateur" - Mike Dehnert
"Short Bus" - DFRNT
"Unglued" - Objekt
"Arnaud & Bernard" - Humanleft
"Night Bird" - Nightwave

It's a great mix of new funky electronic artists with a few I haven't heard of before.  If you love garage and other artists like Falty DL, definitely check out this playlist hosted by iTunes!

I Want To Know What Love Is (HNNY Remix) / Mariah Carey

This past spring, a friend of mine told me about this incredibly heavy yet refreshingly tasteful remix of the famous R&B cover.  After a bit of hunting, I found out that HNNY is based in Stockholm and this remix was released on Sweet Surprise.  Unfortunately, I can't find any other info!  I would love to hear more from HNNY.

Listen here! (I know, there's nothing up to embed, sorry!)
