Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty is a great hip-hop album that came out in '10. Man oh man I should have posted this when I first heard "Shutterbugg" back then, but I'm sticking to my motto that it's never too late to share great music! I have no clue how this one slipped through the cracks. It has remained in my top 150 most played of all time over these past years and for good reason. This is a hip-hop song like no other with a brilliant video to match. A great blend of electronic music and hip-hop by Big Boi.

A lil more o' The Proxy remixed by, in my opinion, one of the most versatile, unpredictable DJs working today: Diplo, of course! This is one of the hottest remixes I've ever heard. I love it. I'm not quite sure why, but there are many variations of the titile of this song. To clarify it's called "Dance In Dark" and it's hard as hell. Very rarely do I enjoy what I'd consider pretty hard techno, especially to dance to; I think it's incredibly difficult to pull off. "Dance In Dark" makes me want to do just that. The sound design on the synths is fantastic. The Proxy is a Russian DJ and producer.
Also featured at Dance Hut, this prime nu disco track started my set off and for good reason! The juicy, warbling main synth line is cause for an enthusiastic "Ohhh yeah!" as it immediately enters after the intro, just see for yourself. A lot of fun, recommended anytime you need to get yourself and/or others dancing. This is the best of nu disco I've encountered so far and I can't wait to find more! Here is a song I featured at the Dance Hut party thrown back in early October. This is incredibly raw techno that I personally enjoy it for its darkness and over all sexiness. A dear friend of mine made me a beautiful mix CD this fall that included this fantastic song by Ronald Jenkees. This guy is capable of some incredible synth work and I like it because it's both strong and beautiful in composition. Ronald Jenkees first gained fame on the site YouTube when he posted a series of videos of himself playing his Korg Triton LE and/or Yamaha Motif XS8 keyboards, often accompanied by beats he composed using FL Studio. The performances were often improvised and are influenced primarily by hip-hop and jazz.
Aside from the music itself, Jenkees’ Youtube videos are notable for his laid-back demeanor and always-friendly introduction, “Hello, YouTubes!” Jenkees typically explains the piece in the video either at the beginning or end of the video. Jenkees also provides motivational text and tips to others who make music. Sounds like a super rad guy!
"Time" is an incredibly fun electro/disco track off of Parallel Dance Ensemble's new album (out on Friday!), Possessions and Obsessions. Featuring super funky synth and really catchy vocals. Parallel Dance Ensemble is the brainchild of Denmark hip hop producer Hannibal and New Zealand rapper Coco solid.
This is without a doubt my favorite song that I found out about in 2011. It wasn't until close to the end of the year that I began listening to nu disco and fell head over heals. The original has elements dark wave, surf rock and some dnb. But what Andrew Weatherall has done brings it to a completely different level. It's slowed (wonderful good idea), it's a bit minimal, and it shimmers in a way that I cannot describe. The sounds of the instruments are beautifully designed, a gritty guitar sounding synth and perhaps synth sounding guitar, over a sharp beat, remixed with mastery. Just unbelievable. Anders Trentemøller is a Danish electronic musician from Copenhagen. This remix can be found on Trentemøller's album Reworked/Remixes, a 2 disc comp. featuring Trentemøller's remixes as well as other artists who have remixed his songs, and reworkings. Just picked it up in Germany not too long ago. Most of my favorites from this compliation are songs I had already known about, but if you are interested in Trentemøller's works of great indie electronica, it is worth checking out. I will surely be posting more songs featured from this album. Andrew Weatherall is a key figure in UK dance culture and has been since the 80s when ecstasy started taking over the dance floor. This is quite a surprising remix. The beat is totally addictive and when it comes in it will instantly grab you while you're being hypnotized by the beautiful bell sample from the original song. Then all of a sudden, half way through the track, everything starts to get pretty nuts, with some awesome fx work for a bit, then satisfies your craving for bass by dropping you back into the original groove. Bad Planet is back after a term long hiatus! I apologize for the abnormally long break, but it was necessary for my life in music for awhile. It's good to be back and I look forward to sharing more tunes with you all! Thank you for continuing to follow Bad Planet. To start back up I decided to share what I have been doing during that time. "Stay" is an original song that I wrote this year for my song production class at Bennington featuring vocals by Mimi Bain and Floetic (Alex Mendez).
