Boxcutter
Well it's been awhile! During which I was able to finally listen to the Boxcutter mix I downloaded from '07. In between now and when I last posted, it is definitely the best listening experience I've had. As I've said before, I'm not usually one to listen to mixes, but this one is half an hour and it is honestly put together with genius expertise. If you love dubstep, dub, and fairly dark music, take the time to download and listen to this (fans of Milanese and Burial, check this out!).
The link is available at London's Hotflush Recordings' site in their download section. The mix is listed as: Boxcutter mix for BBC Radio 1 Experimental (Oct 2007). Click to play now!
(From LastFM) Boxcutter (Barry Lynn) is a dubstep producer from Northern Ireland. Lynn makes the kind of lead-heavy missives which share the cross-over appeal of Burial or VEX’D, whilst keeping a foot firmly in the more electronically-founded margins of the genre. Lynn is yet another member of the ever-swelling dubstep scene who is willing (and able) to introduce a broader palate of sounds, ensuring the genre continues to flourish and, most crucially, avoid the stagnation so prevalent in anything that gets tagged ‘underground’.
Here's a sample of Boxcutter. A personal favorite.

Jamie Woon
Jamie Woon is a DIY based musician, and it shows. After attending the BRIT School, Woon started out creating R&B vocal-led tunes backed by beat-box sampling and guitar. Personally, I am in love with Woon's recent work because it reminds me of a combination of the dark elements and primal, catchy garage beats of Burial with an R&B/pop vibe similar to Justin Timberlake's work with Timbaland. Finally! A great combination of R&B with dubstep! I knew it could be done! Luckily for us dubstep enthusiasts, Burial has already done a remix of Woon's "Wayfaring Stranger". Equally brilliant is Woon's amazing brand new (20 days old) song, "Lady Luck". I hope the two artists will continue to work together.
Also, there is a free download of his track "Blue Truth" if you Like his Facebook page!
"Jamie Woon is a brilliant example of the Electroacoustic [Club] ethos; the 21-year-old talent splices rootsy styles and DIY sample culture, enriching that musical mix with his soulful vocals and poetic observations." [METRO] (excerpt)

Filastine live at The Cove Feb. 17th 2011
Yes, this is delayed.. But I've been busy with school and this is worth posting! This was the most excellent electronic set I've seen live yet! Really a bit of many genres spanning from hip-hop to ethnocore to dubstep to broken world beats and everywhere in between. Combining live sample control through samplers and drum pads with live percussion including an amplified shopping cart, Filastine knows how to perform very, very well and creatively, while mixing some of the freshest beats you won't hear from any ordinary DJ. Filastine has created a collage of musical flavors from all over the world. His visuals were excellent as well; very near-apocalypse-esque!) I was able to pick up both his albums Dirty Bomb and Burn It (the recordings are equally amazing) and exchange a friendly thank you for the overall experience and a new official musical role model.
Filastine is comprised mostly of Grey Filastine, a Barcelona-based artist who can mostly be found traveling around the world and djing from a shopping cart in the hippest clubs in the country.

Innocence / Nero
This winter I had the opportunity to see one half of the infamous dubstep duo perform at Webster Hall in NYC. It was an incredible experience and by far the craziest dubstep performance I've witnessed thus far (joining the mosh pit there was a lot different than it's been in the past..). I got to hear and watch "Innocence" be performed live and only recently did I discover that the track has an epic AMV (Anime Music Video) compiled of clips from the early 90s anime Cyber City Oedo 808. Admittedly, I had no idea there was a whole category to this stuff! I feel like this is something that could be way overdone in a bad way, very quickly. Oh well. The video for "Innocence" is great!
Nero are drum and bass and dubstep producers Daniel Stephens and Joe Ray from the United Kingdom.

Tik Tok (Untold Remix Dub) / Ke$ha
Well, I never thought I would post anything positive related to Ke$ha, but I was happily surprised by the dub of this remix! Do not bother listening to the original. Instead, the dub has just barely enough of the vocal sample to still be called a real remix of "Tik Tok". Really cool beat and progression.
Untold is Jack Dunning, an on-the-rise London based DJ receiving quite the welcome to the scene with a round of praises from fellow DJs such as BBC Radio One’s Mary Anne Hobbs.
